Microplastics Poisoned Water
I just read a disturbing article from Business Insider about microplastics in bottled water. Let me preface this by saying I think bottled water in general is disturbing. My hope is this article turns some heads and gets people listening about the dangers of bottled water. This isn’t to shame anyone, although I’m feeling a little feisty about this one.
Form A New Habit In Honor Of World Water Day
Next time you’re tempted to buy a single use plastic bottle of microplastics filled water, skip it. Go thirsty for a bit until you get home or to work, and fill up your cup or reusable bottle with filtered, clean water. (Or better yet, bring with you the BG Filter Bottle and filter water on the go). The next time you may just remember to fill up your bottle before you leave. Research shows that it actually takes longer than the stereotypical 21 days to make a new habit.
Yesterday was World Water Day and I know we can all be a part of a clean water solution, instead of adding to the problem. Bottled water, besides being a plastic problem and a money wasting problem, is a water wasting problem as well. Do better for yourself!
Shameful, Harmful Waste
We all know the statistic that by 2050 there is going to be more plastic in the ocean than fish. Raise your hand if you know about that shameful garbage patch that we have all contributed to in the Pacific Ocean. We’ve all seen the images of whales washed ashore, dead from a stomach full of plastic garbage. Don’t we all know about the ill effects of plastic containers leaching dangerous, carcinogenic material into our food?? However, we seem to disregard or just don’t care. Maybe we think that it won’t really affect us. Perhaps we’re just lazy. We just give into the world of convenience, and grab that plastic bottle of water anyway.
Microplastics In Bottled Water
Here is news for bottled water drinkers. According to this article, 93% of bottled water (and the most popular brands at that) CONTAIN MICROPLASTICS. Britannica defines microplastics as “small pieces of plastic, less than 5 mm, that occur in the environment as a consequence of plastic pollution. Microplastics are present in a variety of products, from cosmetics to synthetic clothing to plastic bags and bottles.”
Microplastics are a real problem; they are like the dust bunnies under your couch of the modern world. They are contaminating everything in our world because “everything touches everything else.”
Drinking More Than Just Water
Here are some more startling facts. Nearly all of the bottles sampled, 93% had microplastics inside, and they confirmed the average 1-liter water bottle has around 10.4 tiny plastic particles inside. These little suckers are SWALLOWED and become a part of us when we drink them. Some bottles had none, but others had as many as 10,000 micro particles inside a single liter!!! Maybe these new found stats will be the thing to push people over the edge, and start avoiding bottled water like the plague that it is.
Why Should You Care??
Because, “particles of that size can migrate through the intestinal wall and travel to the lymph nodes and other bodily organs…..microplastics have been shown to absorb toxic chemicals linked to cancer and other illnesses, and then release them when consumed by fish and mammals” says OrbMedia.
Tap Water Is Polluted + Body Glove Water Filtration Solution
Microplastics are everywhere….researchers found that on average, bottled water drinkers are ingesting twice as much microplastics as tap water drinkers. However, they are present in tap water too. The solution is quite simple. For the health of you and the health of our world, install a Body Glove water filter system at home and in your office space. Our BG Filter systems filter down to 0.5 micron in size (and 0.2 for the BG-12000 model). This is teeny tiny, and will easily filter out those pesky microplastics from your water. Fill up a stainless steel refillable water bottle with your filtered, clean water, and fill up your body the way it wants to be hydrated. With great tasting, clean, healthy water.
